Don't be your own obstacle, just ask for it!

How many times have you heard the saying, "If you don't ask, the answer will always be no" or "The worst they can say is no"?  it's a simple concept, but how many times do we still not ask for what we want?  Maybe we assume that we know the answer,  or we don't want to be a burden, or we don't want to hear a no, but we are creating our own obstacles that don't need to be there!

I have been working with the non profit organization, The Fit Project, for almost a year to start a Westside location.  A few weeks ago week, I got a call that we are ready to start at the end of the month... on Wednesdays.  That was the worst possible day for me.  It's my day to teach CrossFit Kids, I teach two CrossFit classes, and I have my bootcamp.  I started getting anxiety because I really wanted to participate but I had so many other obligations.  So I drank my Ionix (because adaptogens help with stress!), took a few deep breaths, and just started asking people if I could move things around.

And guess what?  Another coach offered to trade classes.  Then the other CrossFit kids coach offered to trade days as well since it saves her a trip back and forth to the gym.  My clients were all ok with moving to Thursday nights. And just like that, I was able to participate in something I am very passionate about! 

So the next time you think you don't have time to work out, just start asking!

  • Ask your spouse to be in charge of the kids once or twice a week.  They might appreciate having quality time without you telling them how to parent :)
  • Ask some of the other sports parents to start a carpool.  They will appreciate that it frees up their time as well.
  • Ask for help at work.  Someone may be bored, or want to learn a new skill and will appreciate the opportunity to learn.
  • Ask the kids to help with chores.  Eventually they will appreciate learning responsibility. :)

This can apply to anything you want in life, so get out there and ask for it!
